The Countdown Is At 1

Winds gusted today 40-50 mph, but the trade-off was temperatures in the middle to upper 40s.  We'll remain relatively mild overnight as temps hold in the mid 30s and the breeze continues out of the southwest, although, not nearly as strong as it was today.

It's another windy one tomorrow with gusts out of the west-southwest to 30-40mph.  At least it'll be mild as well with early afternoon temps running in the mid 40s.  As winds turn more west-northwest, colder weather pushes in fairly quickly in the evening.  That means temps reach the mid 40s early in the afternoon at Gillette, fall to the low 30s at kickoff, and reach the upper 20s by the end of the game.  It's not that it's brutally cold, but add in a stiff wind throughout the game, and wind chills will fall into the teens.  This transition to colder weather marks the end of the warm weather as tomorrow is the only day left.

The peak of the cold reaches us Tuesday night-Thursday.  That's when temperatures near 0 at night and highs struggle to get out of the teens. 

Sometimes when we transition into and out of the depths of Arctic air, we manage to get snow.  That will be the case this time too.  The best chance for snow occurs late Monday night, into Tuesday morning.  Most pick up a fluffy inch or two of snow, but there's the potential for several inches to fall across SE mass if the ingredients come together just right.  Too early to get into exact snow amount details now, but it's something I am tracking.

The second system I'm tracking is for Friday, and that may produce a plowable snow for many of us if the track holds true to what models suggest today.  You know that can change 6 days out, so I'll leave it as a "potential" for now.

Wild temperatures yesterday---from the 80s down into the low 60s in just an hour AND some heavy duty thunderstorms. The reason was a cool front that dropped in from Maine. That front is in western New England this morning and it's a chameleon as it will become a warm front and try to warm things back up during the day.

More Warmth

You have another warm & humid day with many towns repeating yesterday's weather. That means we start with clouds & fog for a bit before hazy sun gets going. That hazy sunshine will boost temps up into the low 80s by early to mid afternoon across much of the region. At the same time a cool front will begin dropping out of Maine (backdoor front) which will quickly send temps from the 70s/80s down into the 50s/60s by late afternoon & evening. Also, when this front rams into the warmth & humidity it will spark a few showers & thunderstorms during the afternoon.

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.
