Thrown Off?
Posted by Chris Lambert
Spring Forward came and went, and the result was a 6:45PM sunset today. Did your body reset yet? Or you still feel a little thrown off? At times this morning, it seemed like the sun was thrown off thanks to a low deck of clouds that floated in from the ocean. By midday, we did ok for ourselves, and once again, got some melting done.
The snowmelt once again refreezes this evening, and that means black ice reforms, especially any time after 9:00PM as temps dip below freezing. With some low level moisture in place and light to no wind, areas of fog are possible late.
The good news for tomorrow is that all of us will be warmer. Mid 40s across the SE Mass coast, upper 40s in Boston and mid 50s north and west of the city. That outta put another big dent in the snow pack out there! If that doesn't, Tuesday's weather will with temperatures in the mid 50s and a soaking rain from late morning, through the afternoon. I'd allow for some extra time for Tuesday evening's commute as big puddles, ponding on the roads and flooding of poor drainage areas becomes a concern. Overall, many towns pick up 1-1.5" of water. We shouldn't have widespread flooding issue in the rivers, although a few may approach flood stage, and small streams become quiet swollen. That 1-1.5" is a manageable amount for many rivers and streams, even combined with the snowmelt. If, the outside chance of 2.5" would to occur, we'd have more issues. As of now, it's something I'm not overly concerned with, just sometime to watch.
The rain ends by midnight Tuesday, and we'll dry out for Wednesday. Wednesday is transition day with temps nearing 50 in the early afternoon, only to fall back sharply by sunset. That'll set up a colder pattern to end the week and head into the weekend. Starting Thursday, an occasional flurry or snow shower may grace us, but nothing substantial at this point.

Right into summer. Warm & humid weather expected for much of the week. Good?.....Well, keep in mind that warmth & humidity are the 2 key ingredients for thunderstorms. The last being something to *lift* that warm/humid air. Usually a front is a good device to do such that. Today, we will have a cool front approach New England very late in the day & evening. That may lead to an isolated storm or two after 4pm but most towns just have a fair amount of clouds, warmth & humidity. Temps will climb to near 80 by afternoon.

Warming Up and Unsettled

Well, it certainly was a great weekend weather-wise until this afternoon when the temps dropped and light showers moved in from west to east. Despite the cool down, the theme for this upcoming week is warmer with higher humidity. It'll also be unsettled at times.

Pulling The Fade

Our fun in the sun ends this afternoon as morning sunshine fades behind thickening clouds. As those clouds increase, a few showers break out this afternoon from west to east, with the highest chance for rain late afternoon and this evening. Most of the showers are light, especially the early afternoon ones, but a heavier shower or two is possible near day's end and early this evening. Highs reach the mid to upper 60s around noon, then fall back to near 60 mid to late afternoon thanks to scattered showers. These showers are brought to us by a warm front.

Back and Forth

Quite a few clouds in the sky at times this afternoon, but the atmosphere lacked ample moisture to produce showers, so we made out just fine with temps near 70. Even the coast made it well into the 60s before the onshore wind knocked temps back.
