Rain, Rain Go Away
Posted by Chris Lambert
Well, we had a little weather rest for the weary, but now we watch the rain come pouring on in. It won't be a massive storm, but enough to create a mess tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night.
Without a doubt, this storm is a mild one. No rain/snow line as Tuesday's temps reach the mid 50s! The most widespread issue will be big puddles/standing water on the roads in the late afternoon/evening Tuesday.
Here's what to expect:
-Rain arrives from west to east between 2-6PM (earliest west, latest coast)
-Mostly ends by midnight (total amounts of 1/2-1" of rain)
-Snow continues to melt through the day Tuesday and at night, adding to the water runoff
-With the the snowmelt + new rainfall, minor flooding of small streams is possible Tue PM-Wed AM
Well dry out fast for Wednesday, but the breeze picks up. That wind will eventually usher in colder weather, but it'll take until Thursday morning to feel the difference.
Saturday brings the next chance for rain and wet snow as a clipper system zips through the Midwest and into the Northeast. This is not a coastal storm, so a long duration/blockbuster event is a very low probability.

Rain and drizzle continues tonight as temperatures drop into the mid 30s to 40 degrees. Any burst of heavier precip drags down colder air, and elevations above 1000 feet in northern Worcester County or southwester NH see wet snow mixing in overnight. No shovels or plows needed for us, but it is a sure sign how cold the atmosphere is for late May. As of this writing, Mt. Mansfield in VT has picked up 7.5" of snow and Whiteface Mtn. in NY has picked up 18"!

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.
