Walked just a couple of blocks downtown and I knew I was both underdressed and in over my head. Instant 'ice-cream headache', numb fingers and a walk that turned to a trot. Winter has returned.
We may want to rush through this cold snap, but Mother Nature wants to let us 'marinate' in it for another day. So we'll go through the motions again tomorrow: bright start, partly cloudy finish, cold winds all day. Highs barely made it above freezing in Worcester today! Ditto tomorrow, while Boston may catch a break and get to 41 or even (slight chance) 42.
So thought turns to this warm-up by Thursday. Is it credible? Is it really warm? Well, it's real, but it ISN'T really warm. We're returning to the 50s with a partly sunny sky. Hey, at least the wind will let up, right?
Fire danger remains high over the next few days. Check with your local fire department or municipality BEFORE you decide to burn. This time of year, many will NOT issue burn permits.
Our only chance for wet weather is late on Friday and it looks to target Southeast MA while sparing everyone else. Even then, rain is only half the equation. We need a true green-up to get us out of fire season.
Still on the hunt for the next 70 or 80 degree day. They can pop up in a moments notice on the 7-10 day weather maps, so stay tuned.
