On The Fence

Our back & forth swings in daytime temperatures is about to kick into high gear. If you take a peek at that 7day you'll see what I mean. 50s today, only near 40 tomorrow and then right back up close to 60 by Saturday afternoon. Early spring in New England.
The problem with these wild swings (aside from wardrobe issues) is it typically involves a front and these fronts (really more like a dividing line with warm & cold air) are great producers of clouds, showers & thunderstorms. As this front was moving through the region we had some heavy showers for a few hour last evening (see Red Sox rain delay). That front has now moved to our south--too far away for heavy showers today but still close enough to keep clouds & pockets of drizzle/sprinkles around the region. This is usually stand-by weather--where you have the rain gear on stand-by but likely don't use it. Plan on this type of weather lasting into the evening (no delays likely for the Red Sox game tonight).
Tomorrow that front tries to return (and will) so the chance of steady rain returns & I think that it's more of a widespread-all day long rain versus just scattered showers. The temps will tumble further with the all day rain as most towns barely reach 40 by Friday afternoon. Eh, at least it's Friday.
As we roll into the weekend, high pressure is back with us and so will that sunshine be as well. Saturday will be the milder of the two days as we approach 60. Sunday will be cooler with most towns near 53. By the way, Marathon Monday looks awesome with morning temps in the 40s & afternoon temps in downtown Boston in the mid 50s.
