This Is How It Starts? Really?

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.
The heaviest rains will be northwest of Boston, where a good 1/2-1" falls through tonight. SE Mass and across the Cape, the rain won't be quite as heavy, but we'll be in and out of a few showers through the day. We've actually had a few breaks of sun this morning, and overall, the Cape sees the best weather across New England today. At least it's a better chance there to catch a few dry breaks this afternoon if a grilled lunch/dinner is a must.
This afternoon's temperature slide is thanks to a NW wind kicking in as an area of low pressure moves just to our east. In fact, the atmosphere is cold enough, that temperatures are near/below freezing just a few thousand feet up. Any burst of heavier precip drags down colder air, and I could see where elevations above 1000 feet in northern Worcester County or southwester NH see wet snow mixing in. No shovels or plows needed, but it is sure a sign how cold the atmosphere is for late May. Higher terrain in VT will likely see accumulating snows.
Ok, enough about that s word, time to bring back some sun right? We'll be able to do that Sunday afternoon after a damp start. I'm not promising overly warm weather, but at least 60 and mainly dry is a lot easier to take compared to this afternoon.
Memorial Day itself is the pick of the holiday weekend. Near 70 with sunshine!
Ma Nature is a little late with summer-like weather for us, but we will feel the warmth and humidity by the 2nd half of the week.
Have a good weekend!
