Heat Is Trending
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Summer officially rolled in on Friday, and since then, it's been all about the heat. Today marked day two in Boston of 90 or better, and with tomorrow assuredly coming in above the magic number, we'll have ourselves a heat wave.
This would be the first heat wave since July 13-15, 2012 (wow...mid July, go figure)...and probably not the last of this summer. The heat is one thing, but the humidity is what gets everyone in a huff. Today, the heat and humidity combined to give us a heat index of 100° in many towns and cities! It should approach that value again tomorrow as everything remains status quo.
Storms fired all around this afternoon and evening. Vivid lightning (what a way to start Lightning Safety Awareness Week!), intense downpours and even some small hail. We'll start up the engine again tomorrow (with temps in the 90s) so keep an eye to the sky for the usual suspects (rain, lightning and gusty winds) in the afternoon. They'll fire at random, so some hits and some misses can be expected.
While the temperatures dip by the second half of the week, the humidity will hold strong - for the forseeable future. Even when we fall back to the 80s by Thursday and Friday, the humidity will be swarming overhead.
Hit those liquids and keep cool in the A/C!
